Tantalum Applications

Tantalum has some industrially valuable properties such as plasticity, strength, welding properties, corrosion resistance at moderate temperatures, infusibility, low vapor pressure, high coefficient of heat transmission, small electronic work function, and ability to create anode Ta₂O₃ film, special dielectric parameters and is not rejected by organism. Due to these properties Tantalum is used in electronics, chemical machinery, nuclear industry, in metallurgy - in production of heat resistant stainless steels - in medicine; Tantalum carbide is used in hard alloys manufacture. Tantalum electrolytic capacitors exploit the tendency of pure tantalum to form a protective oxide surface layer; it is also used in production of high-end audio-grade resistors, chemical process equipment, artificial fiber,metal smelting crucibles, high temperature furnace heaters, nuclear reactors, and missile parts. Tantalum sheets and foils are used in surgery.
