Tantalum Tribromide, TaBr3
A substance having this composition has not been definitely isolated and analysed, but it is stated to be formed during the reduction of tantalum pentabromide with hydrogen. It is a green powder which yields an intensely green aqueous solution in which the compound is only weakly ionised. The green colour is discharged by the action of oxidising agents; addition of ammonia precipitates characteristic brown flakes.
